4th of July Spoiler Alert

This is directed to my daughters who look at my blog. If you don't want to see your 4th of July cards then stop right now!!!  OK.   I'm entering this card in the Retro Rubber 17 Challenge which is to use the Red, White and Blue color combo, sparkles or a Patriotic Theme.

Hopefully my daughters are being patient and waiting so I will proceed with my cards.

I started with a Real Red card base and embossed the fireworks with Versamark and white embossing powder. The fireworks are really the flower petal detail from PTIs new Bloomers set. Next I sprayed Glimmer Mist on the card to give it some sparkle and shine. The Celebrate sentiment was cut from twice and Night of Navy once and the layers glued together. This gives it some depth. Finally I added some sequins for a little extra pizzaz.  I taped the red layer directly to the card instead of popping it up because it was a bit wavy from the embossing and Glimmer Mist. I think it look ok because it still has the depth from the sentiment.

I tried to capture the shimmer on the card but had a really hard time finding a good angle. I think that it looks prettier IRL than in the photo.

My next card is similar but I used a white base and red & blue fireworks. I cut the sentiment from white and sponged on Real Red and Night of Navy. It is also three layers. I added Wink of Stella to the Celebrate to give it some extra shimmer.  The stamped layer is popped up on dimensionals.

I tried to get the shimmery detail on the sentiment.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope that you all have a fun and safe 4th of July!!

Oops! I just realized that my stamp set was not older than a year so I don't qualify for this challenge. Oh well. I enjoyed making the cards. Maybe tomorrow I can try again :-)

Papertrey June Blog Hop

Today is Papertrey's Blog Hop and I've been looking forward to it but too busy the last few weeks to pre-make a card.  Now my husband and I are at my daughter's helping her get ready to move in August. When I left my house I rapidly threw some stamps, ink and dies in a bag thinking I would borrow other stuff from my daughter.  So I planned out my card and went in search of her Cuttlebug. OK, found it in the box. Opened it up and there is no C plate.  Where is her C plate? How can I cut without a C plate?  She is an hour and a half away teaching at a music camp so I can't ask her. I tried to improvise but no go. Rats! I'm reduced to scissors! Arghh!!  So here is a pic of my simplified card, no fussy cutting for me,  taken with my phone.

I stamped the flower and then traced a tag die around it with a pencil. The flowers look red but they are really an orange color.  Then using my trusty scissors I cut out the tag. I punched a hole and added some twine. This little tag is popped up on dimensionals with the sentiment stamped below.

So it's clean and simple and I hope that you like it :-)

SUPPLIES:
Stamps: Petite Pots (PTI)
Paper: White (PTI)
Ink: Terracotta Tile, Lemon Tart, Simply Chartreuse, Smokey Shadow (PTI), Versafine Onyx Black
Other: Timeless Tags 2 for tracing(WP9), twine, dimensionals, scissors

The Card Concept #37 - The Butterfly Effect

Hi Everyone! The challenge at The Card Concept is to use this beautiful photo of butterflies as your inspiration.

I started looking through some of my older stamp sets and realized that I have a lot of wonderful sets that weren't getting any love.  So I went with this retired SU set called Shapes & Shadows. Do you remember it?  I've always thought those little butterflies were so cute!

I stamped up the right side of the card in a rainbow of colors and added the sentiment. That's what makes a Clean & Simple card. Right?

I've loved seeing everyone's creations so far and can't wait to see more in the coming week.  Thanks for stopping by!!

Fusion Challenge - Blue Skies and Smooth Sailing

I had a great 2 weeks visiting family in Georgia and now I'm back home in Washington.  It was hot in Atlanta and it's hot here at home too. Kinda unusual for this time of year in Washington but it encourages staying inside and making cards :-)

Here is a card that I made for the Fusion Challenge. I used the colors, the nautical theme and the sketch.

I used a retired set from Stampin'Up called The Open Sea.  I stamped the anchor and then fussy cut it. I need practice at that :-)  Then I die cut a navy circle to layer behind it.  Next up was the background text stamped on the yellow panel. It looks sorta beige but it really was stamped in Soft Stone. Next came the flag which I embossed with a folder called Bubbles.  It seemed appropriate. Last came the sentiment and it's done.

The yellow panel is popped up on dimensionals.  I also sponged around the yellow panel and the fishtail flag panel.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you all are enjoying the summer so far. Now I'm off to decide what I'm going to order from Papertrey this evening :-)

Coffee Lovers Blog Hop & ColourQ #294

This is my second post to the Coffee Lovers Blog Hop but it is actually the first card I made.  I wasn't entirely happy with it so I made another card which you can see in my first post today.  I like the other card much better.  I tried to channel my inner Maile Belles.  I don't think this quite hit the mark but it's not totally unfortunate :-)

The Card Concept Design Team Call

I've have been having a great visit in Georgia with my daughter, SIL and grandson. Sunny days and fun times! Yesterday evening I had time to play with another new set by PTI called Southwestern Style. I'm entering this card into The Card Concept call for new design team members in their Clean and Simple style. This card is based on their past Challenge #28. My card is not romantic or full of roses but I liked the colors for the southwestern theme.

I stamped the three images basically rotating the colors. On the middle image I embossed the center square with silver to give it a little extra pop. I also used a paint brush to spritz on some Classic Kraft ink when all other stamping was done. I'd love to be on the design team to share more of my clean and simple cards!

Here's the challenge:

Fire Station Open House

My husband and I are visiting my daughter, SIL and 2 year old grandson for two whole weeks. She lives in Georgia and I live in Washington state.  It is is so special to get to be with them! Yesterday a local fire station had an open house so we all went over to see the fire trucks and visit with the firemen.  In honor of that visit I was inspired to make this card.

These stamps are so small I had a hard time seeing them but I think that I managed to get them lined up fairly well. I die cut the fire station and then stamped it in Smokey Shadow and Pure Poppy. Isn't it cute how the garage door pops open. Well I didn't get a pic of that but you can sort of see it.  Next I used one of the stamps from the Plaid Builder set as the road which gave me a base to stamp the rest of the images. The little fire truck came next then the flag pole. I glued down the station, tied on Baker's twine and stamped the sentiment. This panel is popped up to give it some dimension.

I hope that you like my little fire station card!  Thanks for stopping by!

Stamps: Petite Places: City Station; Petite Places: School (flag); Plaid Builder (PTI)

The Card Concept DT Call

I'm taking the plunge and entering a card in the Design Team Call for The Card Concept Challenge. I love the Clean and Simple style of design. My style varies from CAS to Layers to Graphic but I'm entering this into the Clean and Simple style category.  I love my white space! This challenge is such a great inspiration for the various styles of design and I'd love to be a part of the team!

I used Challenge 32 as my inspiration. The coral, green and aqua colors are such a beautiful color combination.

For this card I used a new set by Papertrey called Quilted: Summer. It makes these fun little pinwheels. I added some enamel dots in the centers to make them pop.

Thanks for stopping by and best of luck to all who enter the Design Team Challenge!

Paper: White (PTI)
Ink: Hawaiian Shores, Berry Sorbet, New Leaf, Smokey Shadow (PTI)

Card Concept 36 Challenge

I'm still playing with new stuff from Papertrey. I used the Enclosed Star stamps and dies for the Card Concept challenge this week. Since I am at my daughter's visiting this week I am limited to the stamping supplies that I brought with me. We all take our stamps on vacation - right?

I was inspired by the green color and stripes with a pale yellow accent.  I love the clean stamping style and think this card would fall into the Clean & Layered category.

I die cut the star and then stamped then stamped it in New Leaf. Next I die cut the Super Star out of white and pounced Lemon Tart ink on it. The sentiment is popped up on dimensionals. The little stars have Gelly Roll Stardust ink on them to give them some shimmer.

Thanks for stopping by today!

SUPPLIES:
Stamps: Enclosed Star (pti)
Paper: White (pti)
Ink: New Leaf, Lemon Tart, Smokey Shadow (pti)
Other: Enclosed Star die, dimensionals, Stardust Gelly Roll pen

Edited 6/10:  My card was chosen as one of the winners! Yay!!

Fusion Challenge: Wedding Belles

I'm at my daughter's on vacation and got to play with some new Papertrey stamps last evening. I used the Fusion Challenge as my inspiration.  I wanted to use the colors as well as the sketch but the yellow/gold didn't go well on the pears so I changed that color to green. Here's my card:

My daughter says that the bowl is levitating. Oh well. What can I say. I missed :-)  All in all a pretty clean and simple card.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
